What sort of tests are available to do determine my fertility issue?

For a woman to become pregnant, her ovaries must release a healthy egg. This egg then must pass through her fallopian tubes and join with sperm to be fertilized. Then, the fertilized egg must impact along the lining of her uterus. If any part of the process is impaired, infertility is likely to occur.

There are some tests available at our clinic that can help our doctors pinpoint your reproductive issues.

Ovulation Test – We will look at your hormone levels via a blood test to determine if you are ovulating.

Hysterosalpingography – This test looks for blockages in your fallopian tubes and uterus. We will inject a substance into your uterus that shows up on an x-ray, and then x-ray the area looking for any abnormalities.

Ovarian reserve testing – We will evaluate the eggs you have available in your ovaries. We will determine the quantity and quality of eggs you have available.

Thorough hormone testing – We will test for other hormones that play a part in the conception of a child.

Imaging – We will use ultrasound imaging to look for any disease that could be affecting your uterus or fallopian tubes.

Genetic Testing – Certain genetic defects could be contributing to your infertility. Doctors have identified them over the years, and we will test for them.

Do I need every one of these tests?

Not at all. These are just some of the test we have available. Our doctor will chat with you to determine which test is needed and when they are to be performed.

What treatments do you have available for infertility at Capital Women’s Care?

Your treatment for infertility depends on several things. We take into account how old you are, the amount of time you’ve been infertile, as well as your personal preferences. There are some cases where infertility cannot be treated. However, in other cases, assisted reproductive technology is available. These methods often include significant physical, time, psychological, and financial commitments. We’ll help guide you to make the decision that is best for you.

Fertility drugs – This method is commonly used if you are suffering from an ovulation disorder. These medications help regulate or induce ovulation.

Intrauterine insemination – Also known as, IUI, healthy sperm is injected directly into the uterus when you release one or more eggs. This method is often used with fertility drugs.

Surgery – Infertility can be the cause of uterine septum, intrauterine scar tissue, or endometrial polyps. Surgery can help correct these issues.

In vitro fertilization -Also known as IVF, we fertilizes a woman’s egg using sperm in a lab. The fertilized egg is then implanted into a woman’s uterus three to five days after fertilization.
